About this Book

Claudius James Rich, a British archaeologist, researcher, diplomat, and traveler, was born in 1787 near Dijon in Burgundy and died of cholera in Shiraz in 1821. In these notes, Rich, while describing his observations and hearings during the trip, specifically addressed ancient monuments such as Persepolis, Naqsh-e Rostam, Naqsh-e Rajab, etc., and did not neglect the city's public places such as the bazaar, bathhouse, mosque, Hafeziyeh, Saadiyeh, etc. His reports on the Shiraz plague and its details are also important monographs in this field. Another work of Rich, as documented in this travelogue, was the transcription of the cuneiform inscriptions of Persepolis.
